Bon MacLarens

Fiction at the fault lines of place, power, and human lives

About

Bon MacLarens writes fiction about people shaped by work, power, place, and movement across borders.

Before focusing on fiction, MacLarens spent much of a career working across Europe and the Middle East in strategy, finance, and industrial environments. That background informs fiction concerned with institutions, cross-cultural lives, and the pressures placed on individuals moving through unfamiliar systems.

Based in Spain, MacLarens is currently working on the next novel.

Echoes from a Path Well Travelled: DILMUN

Set in the Arabian Gulf in 1995, the novel follows a British engineer and a Filipina domestic worker whose lives gradually converge under the pressure of power, secrecy, and survival.

Echoes from a Path Well Travelled: DILMUN is a dual-narrative literary novel about displacement, exploitation, and moral compromise. Wry, layered, and quietly suspenseful, it explores the gap between official structures and private lives.

Genre: Literary fiction with elements of suspense

Status: Completed debut novel; further work in progress

BEHIND THE BOOK

This novel began with an interest in the gap between public structures and private lives: the difference between what institutions present, what individuals endure, and what remains hidden from view.

From there, it became a story about lives unfolding in parallel, crossing under pressure, and leaving consequences that are only understood later.
